Types of VFT Opportunities

Types of Enrichment or Virtual Field Trip (VFT) Opportunities could  be broken into two options – Sit and Get and Collaborative activities.

Sit and Get activities are events in which the presenter and his/her topic is the focus.  This type of event can be very informative and requires limited preparation on the teacher and student’s part.  Many of these types of presentations come with a pre-lesson to prepare students for the topic.  The more involvement that students have by preparing and asking questions generally results in a better program for both the students and presenter.  To view examples of Sit and Get activities and resources, click here.

Collaborative activities are those where the participating sites each contribute to the activity.  The teacher’s responsibility increases as the participating sites must get together and plan out the event.  After planning comes the preparation and even practice phase for their students.  The final step is the collaborative event.  This type of event would generally be considered as a more fulfilling and learning experience for students. Collaborations Around the Planet (CAPSpace) is a great location to begin your search for interactive projects.
